This gift-boxed wine is a really suitable gift for any lover of wine – especially, of course, of red wines. It’s a great-tasting Shiraz, and ideally suited to the up-coming Christmas and New Year festivities. It’s 14.5% alcohol, which is a little on the high side for my liking, but then red wines of this quality often fall into this category. The fact that it comes nicely boxed makes it ideally suited as a present … but only if you can resist the temptation to sample it yourself!

There aren’t many wines I put in the exceptional category but this is definitely one of them. It’s made perfect for gifting by the good quality gift box in which it’s supplied. The wine itself is a high 14.5%vol South African Syrah blend. It manages to pull off being smooth and refined whilst being packed full of flavours; predominantly blackberry, cherry and spice but also some lavender and cocoa. It comes at a premium but anyone fortunate enough to receive this as a gift is in for a treat. Full blend details: Syrah 71%, Grenache 9%, Cinsault 8%, Cabernet sauvignon 5% and Viognier 1%
